Admissions
Applying for a place at Sarisbury Infant School
All children are entitled to start school in the September after their fourth birthday. By law, children have to be receiving full-time education by the start of the term following their fifth birthday, when they reach compulsory school age.
- Children born between 1 September and 31 December reach compulsory school age on 31 December and must be receiving full-time education at the start of the Spring term (i.e. after the Christmas holidays, in January).
- Children born between 1 January and 31 March reach compulsory school age on 31 March and must be receiving full-time education by the start of the Summer term (i.e. after the Easter holidays, in March or April)
- Children born between 1 April and 31 August reach compulsory school age on 31 August and must be receiving full-time education at the start of the new school year (i.e. after the summer holidays, in September).
Parents of non-compulsory school age children (four year olds) may request a pattern of part-time attendance or deferment. Parents will make decisions based upon the needs of their child, in consultation with the school and any pre-school settings involved.
Parents of ‘summer born’ children only (those born between 1 April and 31 August), who feel they are not ready to begin school before they reach compulsory school age, may request approval for their child to start school in Year R a year after the point at which they could first have been admitted.

Admission Appeals
By 28th February each year, we will set out a timetable regarding the organisation and the hearing of admission appeals. The information will include a deadline which allows a parent or carer at least 20 school days from the date of notification that their application was unsuccessful to prepare and lodge a written appeal. It will include reasonable deadlines for all parties to submit their evidence. A parent or carer lodging an appeal will have at least 10 school days' notice of their appeal hearing. Within 5 school days of the hearing, decision letters will be sent. This follows the School Admission Appeals Code.
