Physical Education

At Sarisbury Infant School, we integrate physical activity into the school day: wiithin our outside areas, welly walks, crew-a-cise and lunchtime activities. During our taught lessons we follow the National Curriculum and ensure that all of our children:

  • develop competence to excel in a broad range of physical activities
  • are physically active for sustained periods of time
  • engage in competitive sports and activities

This in turn we believe will help them to lead active and healthy lives.

The children are taught to:

  • Master basic movements including running, jumping, throwing and catching, as well as developing balance, agility and co-ordination, and begin to apply these in a range of activities
  • participate in team games, developing simple tactics for attacking and defending
  • perform dances using simple movement patterns.

Progression Ladders

Here at Sarisbury Infant School we fund specialist PE teachers who not only teach lessons but also coach and advise teachers to ensure they provide a clear progression of skills to the children and are able to help the children practise their skills in a variety of engaging ways.

We also participate in Interschool Festivals and Competitions throughout the year, organised by the Henry Cort School games organiser. This enables children to improve their skills for a defined purpose.

In addition, we aim to give children a taste of some sports that they may have never considered trying and arrange half-termly taster sessions in activities such as taekwondo, cheerleading, climbing and golf.

We have also established links with Hollyhill Leisure Centre and Whiteley Junior parkrun to promote a healthy lifestyle outside of the school gates and to offer parents and caregivers the opportunity to engage in physical activity alongside their children.
