Computing

At Sarisbury we strive to provide children the technical knowledge and skills to thrive in an ever changing technological world. We want to develop confident independent learners who are well equipped for their future. At Sarisbury Computing is taught through cross curricular topics which provide a context and engage the children.

Children’s computing skills progress throughout the school and fall under the following categories as set out by the National Curriculum Guidance.

Pupils should be taught to:

- Computer Science: understand what algorithms are; how they are implemented as programmes on digital devices and that programmes can be executed by following precise instructions. Pupils should be taught to create and debug certain programmes.

- Digital Literacy: use technology purposefully to create, organise, store, manipulate and retrieve digital content.

- Information Technology: recognise common uses of information technology beyond school.

- E-Safety: use technology safely and respectfully, keeping personal information private; identify where to go for help and support when they have concerns about content or contact on the internet or other online technologies.

Each KS1 classroom has their own ‘Computing’ area which is equipped with laptops, iPads and in some classes, iPod Touches too. The iPads have educational apps on them which children access independently. In addition to this, each class has an Interactive Whiteboard which is a useful learning tool for both teachers and children. All children at Sarisbury have their own individual profiles on Education City and Bug Club. This provides children the opportunity to log-in to their own account. In addition to online resources we have Blu-Bots and Bee-Bots which upport children when learning about programming and debugging. We also have a 'green screen' area which children can use to create their own videos.
