March 2019

We have had an amazing book week based on the book 'We're Going On a Bear Hunt' as it is its 30th birthday this year. We've all learnt the oral story with the actions which we performed to the year 2 children.

  • We had a whole school assembly to tell us what had happened over the weekend
  • We went to listen to a story in a different class in year R
  • We had a special bear hunt picnic for lunch made by Emily
  • We had a vocabulary parade where we all dressed up as a book character or as a word

We've had a fantatsic week!

February 2019

This week we have been thinking about Water. Our class bears have gone on holiday to New York and they asked us to make a boat for them to travel in that didn't sink and was waterproof to keep them dry. The children loved this challenge! We have also been learning about capacity and the different vocabulary related to water too. In music we have been using or instruments to respond to different sounds thinking about water. We have written questions to ask our bears for when they return. We can't wait to have them home safely!

January 2019

This term we have been focussing on the author Julia Donaldson. We have been reading lots of her books including Stickman, Superworm, The Highway Rat, Zog and The Smartest Giant in Town. The children have really enjoyed her stories and we have been doing lots of activites related to them including:

  • ordering the stories
  • writing a postcard from the Stick man
  • measuring length using sticks
  • making springy worms out of pipe cleaners
  • using speech bubbles to think about what the characters are saying
  • save Superworm using the Beebots
  • travelling in PE like a worm
  • using wriggly worms to add to 10
  • feeding worms to birds in finger gym
  • thinking of describing words to describe The Highway Rat including putting them in a sentence
  • learning how to create a colour wash

We have loved looking at your Autumn walk pictures on Tapestry and we have heard many stories where the children have recounted what they saw and  found whilst walking in the woodlands with family and friends. Year R have also been busy going for a Welly Walk looking for signs of Autumn and  we collected lots of sticks for our Hedgehogs which will appear in your homes soon!

Thank you to all our parents and carers who attended our Year R Information Evening. We hope you found this evening helpful and informative.

This week we have also attended our first whole school assembly where we were thinking about Harvest Time.

It is just one more week till half term and the children all deserve a well earned rest! It has been a fantastic first half term at school and we hope you all have an enjoyable, restful and safe half term.

September 2018

This week your child will have brought home their first reading book to share with you. Please encourage your child to tell you a story using the pictures and talk about what the characters might be feeling and saying. Your child will get a new reading book weekly, please ensure their reading folder and diary is in school every day. We would like you to read with your child at least three times a week and record this in your child's reading diary.

Your child will now have their first home home learning task to complete at home. Books will be collected in every Tuesday and new home learning will be given out on a Thursday.

We are very excited for our first PE lesson next week. Please make sure all PE kits are in school, your child will not need plimsolls.

We are now ready to begin learning our sounds, we will learn four sounds a week as well as two tricky words (Dory Wavy Words).
